The shown notation on this piece of music reads, "colla più gran forza". Which basically means, "as loud as possible". I think that probably sums up what most people think about as a trombone player's attitude towards music. ;) But usually if we're playing excessively loud, it is just to annoy the woodwinds, and taunt them because they can't. ;)
I mean really, how can you say anything bad about an instrument that used to be called the Sackbut? Better than being called a buttbag, I guess, because the tbone is definitely not a bag of butts. :P
