Continuing our rail theme from yesterday... here's a view down a flight at the Capitol.
The longest stairway is listed by Guinness Book of Records as the service stairway for the Niesenbahn funicular railway near Spiez, Switzerland, with 11,674 steps and a height of 5476 ft. The stairs are strictly employee-only (dang).

Wikipedia (under "Niesen") says it's open once a year for a stair run. Otherwise you could just take the funicular up the mountain and pretend you ran the stairs.
